HAPPY HORSE HUSBAND DAY!
Okay, okay, there isn’t really a “horse husband day” but there should be, right? As Father’s Day approaches, I am pondering what my husband should be gifted with for Father’s Day, and I’m thinking about how my husband went from being completely uninvolved with my “horse hobby” to being very helpful support with our animals. You see, my husband (Daniel) was a career military guy. He served our country for 25 years and in his last year he was deployed to Afghanistan. He retired with a hip that he wounded in the line of duty, and a hefty case of PTSD. That was in 2012. Since then, I have been involved in horses, growing Wild Horse Products, helping raise grandbabies, and trying to keep the ship sailing smoothly. And though he has steadily been recovering from the PTSD, the hip injury continues to get worse as there is no repair for that situation, just maintaining the best he can. This last year Daniel has been pushing himself to get out more, spend more time with friends, traveling to visit family, and the most important in my book…help with the homestead and the horses.
In the beginning I admit it was a bit frustrating teaching him to be a “horse person”, since there is a whole mindset to being around horses, that if you don’t follow, you don’t stay safe. As horse people, you know exactly what I am talking about, right? And even though an occasional conversation about horse care leads into a “heated conversation”, I have very much come to rely on his help these days. He also has become interested enough to learn who gets what hay, and how each horse needs to be fed and why. The few times he has missed helping me feed while off visiting friends or family, makes me really appreciate when he is around, lending me a hand. Thus, my thoughts on “Horse Husband Day”.
So, this “Father’s Day”, I also deem “Horse Husband Day”, for those husbands who tolerate our horse craziness, costs, and crazy horse friends. I hope you all have a fabulous day!

With the rising cost of ingredients, we are having to reevaluate how we do business.
